Right now you are probably reading this thanks to technology from Cisco.

Cisco is the world's largest producer of internet and network-related technologies and the chances are that any online communication will pass through their equipment at some stage.

Explaining exactly what the company does is not always easy, however.

I know, because I have been helping them to produce copy that sells technology for more than half a decade, working on everything from white papers and brochures to hosting podcasts and writing speeches and video scripts.

Some of the larger projects that I currently handle for Cisco include:

• Drafting corporate press releases and acting as a writing resource for the European and Emerging Markets PR teams.

• Covering global markets outside of the US as a correspondent for News@Cisco, Cisco's online corporate newswire.

• Writing and editing a bi-monthly internal newsletter for Cisco's Global Mobile Vertical team.

In March 2007, a Financial Times and Bowen Craggs survey of 60 major corporate websites ranked Cisco's website 19th overall but equal first for serving the media and customers.
