The Capita Group plc is one of the largest professional support organisations in the UK, providing services to local and central government and the education and private sectors. Capita Communications, a unit within the company's Business Services division, specialises in the production of internal and customer magazines both for other parts of the organisation and for private sector clients. Up to 2002 I worked regularly with the unit, contributing to staff magazines such as YP Live and Yell, for the UK's Yellow Pages directory business, and Establishing Contact, for American Express' Establishment Services Group. I also worked on a number of Capita's customer publications, including Update, for Capita Human Resource Services, and Information Exchange, a global magazine and web publishing venture run on behalf of BT Worldwide. In 1998 I was taken on as launch editor for Resource, Capita Group's customer magazine, with responsibility for setting the publication's tone and style and delivering all copy and sourcing images for the first issue. I was able to make sure all material for the 12-page launch issue was pulled together within a four-week schedule. Resource is now delivered to clients in printed format and via the company website as a key ingredient in the organisation's corporate communications strategy.
